Why a flexible stem changes everything (night-time comfort)

On paper, all earplugs look alike. But one discreet detail often makes the difference between an earplug you keep in all night and one you find in the sheets at 3 a.m.: the flexible stem. Here's why this small element changes everything for sleep.
The number-one problem with earplugs at night: they fall out
Most earplugs are designed for static use: a concert, a journey, DIY. At night, it's another story. You move, change position, rub the pillow — and an earplug with nothing to hold it ends up coming out. The result: you wake to the noise, or you go fishing for the lost earplug.
What a flexible stem does
A flexible stem hugs the shape of your ear canal and creates a light anchor point, without rigidity or unpleasant pressure. It goes along with your head's movements instead of being pushed out. It's the difference between an earplug that "holds because it's wedged" and one that "holds because it hugs".
Flexible, not rigid: why it's crucial
A rigid stem might hold, but at the cost of comfort: it would press, especially when you sleep on your side. The whole point is a soft hold: enough not to fall out, gentle enough that you forget it. This dual goal guided the design of Core: a flexible stem paired with a low-profile soft silicone tip.
Side comfort, the real test
Most people sleep on their side. That's where an earplug shows its limits: if it sticks out or is hard, it presses against the pillow and quickly becomes annoying. A low profile + a soft stem is the combination that lets you lay your head down without even feeling the earplug.
Hold and seal: two different things
Be careful not to confuse them. The tip provides the seal (and so the noise reduction); the stem provides the hold (and so staying in over time). A good night-time earplug needs both: without a seal, it doesn't soften; without a hold, it doesn't stay in place. It's their combination that makes a successful night.
In short
The flexible stem is the detail that separates a "daytime" earplug from a true sleep earplug: it holds all night without pressing, even on your side. It's one of Core's design choices, to test in your bed thanks to the 30-night trial — also available in Duo and Trio to have a pair everywhere.
